The Mad River Valley's Answer to the Transportation Needs of Our Seniors & Locals Without Wheels
Free Wheelin' is a homegrown transportation service serving the five towns (Waitsfield, Warren, Fayston, Moretown, Duxbury) of the Mad River Valley (MRV) in Central Vermont. Thanks to the cooperative efforts of the MRV Senior Center, MRV Community Fund and MRV Interfaith Council, Free Wheelin' started in June 2019 as a pilot program with our first vehicle, a brand new 2019 Subaru Forester nicknamed Daisy. We added a second vehicle to our fleet in 2021, a Subaru Impreza dubbed Foxy, generously donated in Irene Mehuron's name.
Free Wheelin' is funded through donations from our sponsors and community. In 2022 we provide 100 rides per month on average. Seniors of the Valley have come to depend on us for getting them to and from medical appointments, social gatherings, grocery stores, the post office, beauty salon, and more. We are proud to be able to support our seniors with this critical and free transportation service, as well as offering rides to non-senior Valley residents who don't have transportation.
Along with monetary donations, Free Wheelin' depends on volunteer drivers. With the number of rides on the rise, getting as high as 7 or 8 a day, we need more drivers. Being a driver is a time commitment which is why a lot of ours are retired. It's a great way to give back to the community in a meaningful way. We hope you will consider joining us.
