ABOUT US
Free Wheelin' is a homegrown transportation service serving the four towns (Waitsfield, Warren, Fayston, Moretown) of the Mad River Valley (MRV) in Central Vermont. Free Wheelin' was the brainchild of Johnnye Eure, a long term resident of the Valley. Michael Bransfield and Rebecca Baruzzi joined ranks with Johnnye and together they approached local organizations for support. Thanks to the cooperative efforts of the Mad River Seniors, MRV Community Fund and MRV Interfaith Council, Free Wheelin' started in June 2019 as a pilot program with our first vehicle, a brand new 2019 Subaru Forester nicknamed Daisy.
Free Wheelin' is funded through donations from our sponsors and community. In 2022 we provided 100 rides per month on average. Seniors of the Valley have come to depend on us for getting them to and from medical appointments, social gatherings, grocery stores, the post office, beauty salon, and more. We are proud to be able to support our seniors with this critical and free transportation service, as well as offering rides to non-senior Valley residents who don't have transportation.
Along with monetary donations, Free Wheelin' depends on volunteer drivers. With the number of rides on the rise, getting as high as 7 or 8 a day, we need more drivers. Being a driver is a great way to give back to the community in a meaningful way. We hope you will consider joining us.
